Tears From Heaven

Tears From Heaven

I came across the death of someone I knew long ago. Recalling the deaths of others I have known, I remembered the tears shed by mourners at the funeral services and at the grave site. I began to think of the belief systems that describe heaven, paradise, as being out there high up in the sky. All the belief systems I have ever known see heaven as being up in the sky somewhere. What if, I thought, those who have died before us can see how we live and does it sadden them because of the things we do to ourselves, to each other, to other nation states, to our own nation. What if those in heaven shed tears for us just as we shed tears for them when they died. The painting is what my mind's eye saw of their tears falling from heaven, falling and landing on the living, falling on earth. My mind's eye saw the color of their tears as I reflected on world history, our nation's history, the history of those known to me, my personal history.
